Three Dead, Four Injured in Ebonyi Mining Pit Collapse

On Saturday, a tragic incident occurred in Enyim Agalegu, Ikwo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Nigeria, where a mining pit collapse resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to four others. The mining site, previously known as Royal Salt, was reportedly engaged in illegal mining activities.

Collin Obok, the chairperson of the Federal Union of Miners, confirmed the incident and visited the scene on Sunday after receiving a distress call around 4 PM on Saturday. Upon arrival, he mobilized community members to assist in evacuating the overburden on top of the lifeless bodies.

The situation highlights ongoing safety concerns in the mining sector, particularly regarding illegal operations in the region.
