Tinubu, Abdulsalami Honor Opadokun on 80th Birthday

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar celebrated Chief Ayo Opadokun on his 80th birthday, acknowledging his extensive contributions to Nigeria's democracy. Rather than a grand celebration, Opadokun chose to express gratitude to God, marked by a six-hour praise event at Ikate Baptist Church in Lagos.

Tinubu praised Opadokun as a prominent pro-democracy activist and elder statesman, recalling that Opadokun spent his 50th birthday in detention due to his activism against military rule. The President emphasized Opadokun's unwavering commitment to good governance and federalism, noting his role in the June 12 struggle and his leadership in NADECO and Afenifere.

Tinubu also referenced Opadokun's recent publications, including "Gun Hegemony" and "The NADECO Story," as vital historical accounts. He commended Opadokun for being a moral compass in Nigerian politics and assured him that his administration would continue to pursue a vision of a more democratic and equitable Nigeria.
