Activist Calls for NAFDAC DG's Removal Over Fake Drugs

Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss Prof. Moji Adeyeye, the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), citing her alleged inability to address the proliferation of counterfeit and substandard drugs in Nigeria. In a statement released on Tuesday, Adeyanju expressed alarm over the widespread availability of fake medicines and unsafe consumer products, claiming that Nigerians are exposed to dangerous items daily.

He criticized NAFDAC's effectiveness and called for the removal of leadership in other regulatory agencies, including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). Adeyanju also requested that the Federal Government declare a state of emergency regarding counterfeit products and conduct a comprehensive review of the regulatory system.

This call follows Adeyeye's recent rejection of resignation demands, where she defended her tenure and outlined reforms made since her return to Nigeria after 34 years in the United States.
