Tinubu Supports Lekeelekee, Pledges Media Protection

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his support for Nduka Obaigbena's new digital media platform, Lekeelekee, during a meeting with leaders from the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), and the Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) at the State House in Abuja. Tinubu highlighted the importance of safeguarding Nigeria's media ecosystem from the influence of global technology companies, which he believes threaten traditional media.

He assured media stakeholders that his administration would support initiatives aimed at protecting the local media industry, citing Lekeelekee as an example of indigenous innovation. The President also discussed the need for the federal government to examine tariffs affecting the media industry, including newsprint and broadcasting equipment, to strengthen the sector's capacity.

He urged journalists and media organizations to play an active role in enhancing Nigeria's federal system and ensuring accountability at local government levels.
