Tinubu Launches Nigeria Revenue Service HQ, Promises Reform

On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the new headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in Abuja, which features 16 floors across three towers and accommodates 3,000 staff. During the ceremony, Tinubu criticized outdated tax laws for impoverishing Nigerians and pledged to implement comprehensive fiscal reforms aimed at simplifying the tax system and creating a transparent, investment-friendly environment.

He emphasized the necessity of these reforms in light of Nigeria's rising petrol subsidy bill, which has reached N52 trillion annually, and the urgent need to address the country's economic instability. Tinubu's administration aims to restore financial stability and confront structural weaknesses in the economy.

Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the NRS, noted that without reform, Nigeria's external reserves could drop below $2 billion. Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abba also urged patience from Nigerians, citing early positive results from the ongoing reforms.
