Tinubu Directs FERMA to Implement Data-Driven Road Maintenance Strategy

Former Lagos State Governor and political leader, Bola Tinubu, instructed the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to adopt a preventive, data-driven road maintenance strategy during the 2026 Road Summit in Abuja. Tinubu emphasized the importance of developing a comprehensive georeferenced national database to identify the root causes of road failures.

He highlighted the need for a proactive maintenance framework, including routine road condition audits and post-failure assessments. Tinubu also stressed the significance of a credible national road asset database to improve budget accuracy and prioritize interventions.

Additionally, he called for enhanced collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions to optimize outcomes across the federal road network. The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, commended the focus on road infrastructure, emphasizing its critical role in national development.

FERMA's Managing Director, Dr. Emeka Agbasi, echoed the importance of a data-driven asset management approach for sustainable road infrastructure.
