Tinubu Grants Pardon to Herbert Macaulay and 174 Others in Historic Move

President Bola Tinubu has granted a presidential pardon to Herbert Macaulay, a prominent Nigerian nationalist, and 174 others. The pardon was based on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy.

Macaulay, known as the father of Nigerian nationalism, had been twice convicted by colonial authorities in 1913. The decision was conveyed by the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi SAN.

This move has sparked debates on the fairness of Macaulay's prosecution. The gesture aims to address historical injustices and recognize the contributions of key figures in Nigeria's history.
