Tinubu Government Defends Nigeria's Petrol Pricing Policy

The Tinubu-led government has defended the current price of petrol in Nigeria, stating that it is a result of economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu. Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, made these remarks on Tuesday during a commission at the agency's headquarters in Abuja.

Despite public complaints regarding the petrol price, which has seen a significant increase following the removal of the petrol subsidy policy, Adedeji noted that the average price of petrol in Nigeria is approximately $0.88 per liter, which is significantly lower than the global average. Following the subsidy removal, prices initially rose below N200 per liter but later climbed above N1,200 due to tensions in the Middle East affecting global supply.

Adedeji maintained that the reforms would help stabilize fuel supply in the country and expressed confidence that the full operation of the Dangote refinery would ensure Nigeria's energy security.
