Federal Government Enhances Railway Security Measures

The Federal Government has approved the acquisition of additional train coaches and security equipment to enhance railway transportation and address threats from banditry, kidnapping, and vandalism. Funso Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, announced this during an inspection of the ongoing Kano–Maradi railway project.
The approval includes procuring more railway coaches to increase capacity and implementing surveillance systems to protect railway infrastructure. Adebiyi emphasized that insecurity is a significant concern, particularly regarding attacks on railway infrastructure, which can disrupt services and endanger passengers.
He cited the Abuja–Kaduna railway corridor as an example of these security challenges. The government plans to introduce a tracking system as part of its response to banditry.
Adebiyi assured that the Nigerian Railway Corporation has recruited a surveillance team to patrol routes regularly, aiming to eliminate vandalism and enhance security measures.
