Tinubu Approves Nigerian Anti-Doping Agency Board

President Bola Tinubu has approved the constitution of the Nigerian Anti-Doping Agency Board, a critical step in compliance with global regulations set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). This decision comes after nearly 20 years of legislative delays regarding the anti-doping bill.

The board's establishment is part of Nigeria's efforts to consolidate its status as a clean sports nation. Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), announced this development during a closed-door meeting with the President in Abuja.

The approval follows Tinubu's signing of the anti-doping law in 2025. Dikko also discussed Nigeria's sports strategy, emphasizing the need to focus on upcoming competitions like the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), rather than the World Cup.

He highlighted the economic impact of sports, noting that Nigeria won nearly 375 medals in various competitions last year, contributing significantly to the GDP and job creation.
