Tinubu Reopens Renovated National Arts Theatre in Lagos, Honors Wole Soyinka

Nigeria's National Arts Theatre in Lagos, after a four-year renovation, was reopened by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 1, 2025, coinciding with the country's 65th Independence Day. The event also marked the renaming of the theatre to Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in honor of Africa's first Nobel Laureate in Literature.

Tinubu announced the creation of an Artists Endowment Fund, to be managed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, with his personal contribution. The fund aims to support the creative industry's sustainability.

Tinubu praised Soyinka's contributions and urged Nigerians to speak positively about the country. The reopening signifies a significant investment in Nigeria's cultural sector and honors a literary icon.
