Tinubu Appoints Joseph Tegbe as New Power Minister

President Bola Tinubu has initiated a reshuffle in Nigeria's power sector, appointing Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, subject to Senate confirmation, and Lanre Babalola as a special adviser. This restructuring aims to accelerate reforms in the electricity value chain.

The changes follow the resignation of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue a governorship ambition in Oyo State. Joseph Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is recognized as a fiscal and economic reform expert with 35 years of experience in both public and private sectors.

He previously served as a senior partner and head of advisory services at KPMG Africa and is currently the Director General of Global Liaison for Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership. The President's statement emphasized Tegbe's significant engagement within the power sector, particularly in regulatory institutional reform involving agencies like the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

The expectation is that Tegbe will leverage his expertise to advance critical reforms and improve outcomes in Nigeria's power sector.
