Nollywood Legend Olu Jacobs Passes Away at 84 in 2026

Olu Jacobs, born Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84. His family confirmed his death in an Instagram post shared by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, expressing gratitude for his life and contributions to the film industry.

Jacobs was known for his commanding screen presence and memorable performances in both Nigerian and international productions. He faced health challenges due to a degenerative condition, which limited his public appearances.

Jacobs was a co-founder of Lufodo, an institution in the Nigerian film industry, and was affectionately referred to as "The Lion of Lufodo." His accolades included being conferred with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011, winning the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2007, and receiving the Industry Merit Award at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
