Bola Tinubu Proposes Increasing Appeal Court Justices to 110 in Nigeria

Former Lagos State Governor and political leader, Bola Tinubu, has submitted a bill to the Nigerian Senate seeking to amend the Court of Appeal Act to raise the number of justices from 70 to 110. The proposed amendment includes provisions for virtual hearings to streamline appeal proceedings.

Tinubu's bill also suggests the establishment of an Alternative Dispute Resolution Center within the Court of Appeal to expedite certain appellate matters. The amendment aims to update outdated legal terminologies and definitions, improve access to justice, reduce delays, and enhance public confidence in the judiciary.

Additionally, Tinubu has sent a separate bill to the Senate to amend the Federal High Court Act, seeking to increase the number of judges from 70 to 90. The Senate is also expected to confirm the appointment of Oyewole Joseph Kayode as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
