Bola Tinubu Seeks Approval to Increase Appeal Court Justices to Enhance Judicial Efficiency

Former Lagos State Governor and political leader, Bola Tinubu, has submitted a request to the House of Representatives seeking approval to raise the number of Appeal Court Justices from 70 to 110. The proposal, contained in an executive bill titled "Court of Appeal Amendment Bill 2026," aims to enhance the efficiency of judicial adjudication.

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Abba Tajudeen, read the letter during a plenary session in Abuja.

The bill also includes provisions to modernize the judicial structure by introducing virtual board proceedings and conducting court proceedings through electronic audio-visual means. Additionally, Tinubu proposed the establishment of an alternative dispute resolution center within the Court of Appeal to handle appellate matters efficiently.

Separately, another bill titled "Federal High Court Amendment Bill 2025" seeks to increase the number of Federal High Court judges from 70 to 90 to improve the speed and quality of adjudication.
