Tinubu Vetoes NIMC Bill Over Drafting Errors

President Bola Tinubu withheld assent for the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Bill on a Tuesday, citing significant drafting errors and structural inconsistencies. In a communication to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abba Tajudeen, Tinubu acknowledged the bill's importance for reforming the commission but pointed out several flaws.

He noted that the long title of the bill did not adequately capture the intent to repeal and re-enact the existing act. Furthermore, he identified an incorrect reference to board member appointments in Section 4(2) of the bill, which erroneously referred to members as part-time when they should be appointed by the president.

Tinubu also criticized the lack of clarity regarding the qualifications and professional experience required for the four executive commission members, among other errors.
