Tinubu Critiques Opposition's Misrepresentation of Electoral Act

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed opposition parties, accusing them of deliberately misrepresenting the Electoral Act for political advantage. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to democratic principles and the integrity of the electoral process.

Speaking at the 4th National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, Tinubu criticized the opposition's constant attacks on the Electoral Act 2026, stating that such actions harm the country's democratic development. He highlighted that the law was not arbitrarily imposed but was the result of a rigorous legislative process that included public participation.

Tinubu argued that critics who portray the law as anti-democratic ignore the procedural safeguards that strengthen public confidence in the electoral system. He dismissed claims that the APC is steering Nigeria towards a one-party state and emphasized the importance of a healthy democracy where leaders are held accountable.

Tinubu warned party members against complacency and internal divisions, stressing that political parties often fail not due to electoral defeat but due to internal conflicts and misplaced priorities.
