Atiku Abubakar Claims Tinubu Will Use Fuel Subsidy Tactics

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, alleged that President Bola Tinubu intends to reverse the removal of fuel subsidy as the election approaches. Atiku made this claim during a world press conference at his residence in Abuja on a Friday.

He cautioned Nigerians to be wary of what he described as an electoral trick, asserting that Tinubu would revert to the previous fuel subsidy removal policy if re-elected. President Tinubu had announced the removal of fuel subsidy in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, leading to a significant increase in petrol prices from below N200 per litre to N1,430 per litre currently.

Atiku mentioned that transporters in Lagos are planning a protest, which he believes could provide Tinubu with an excuse to temporarily reinstate the fuel subsidy before ultimately removing it again after the elections.
