APC Chieftain Critiques Atiku's Fuel Subsidy Proposal

Aminullah Mustapha, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a petroleum marketer in Kebbi State, criticized the proposal by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, to restore fuel subsidy if elected in 2027. Mustapha stated that reintroducing the subsidy would revert Nigeria to a corrupt system characterized by waste and abuse.

He shared insights from his experience in the petroleum business, alleging that billions of naira were lost due to fraudulent claims and the diversion of petroleum products during the previous subsidy regime. Mustapha claimed that funds were misallocated to bogus marketers, and some products financed under the subsidy were diverted to neighboring countries like Niger and Benin Republic.

He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's removal of the subsidy as a courageous move to eliminate corruption and urged Nigerians to critically evaluate proposals to restore it, advocating instead for policies that enhance domestic refining and transparency in the petroleum sector.
