Tinubu's Detention of El-Rufai Seen as Political Move

Demola Olarenwaju, a senior political assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alleged that President Bola Tinubu's administration is attempting to politically silence opposition figures, specifically through the prolonged detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Olarenwaju claimed that El-Rufai's release was delayed due to efforts to weaken opposition forces, particularly as the timing coincided with the death of El-Rufai's mother.

He described the situation as a bitter irony, suggesting that Tinubu's actions reflect a desperate attempt to cripple opposition ahead of a potential second term. Olarenwaju emphasized that the continued detention by agencies such as the DSS, EFCC, and ICPC indicates a broader strategy to suppress political rivals, including Nuhu Ribadu, who is seen as a future competitor.

He concluded by warning that this situation could foreshadow Tinubu's intentions for a second term in office.
