Nigeria's UN Position Strong Despite Tinubu's Absence

Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, defended President Bola Tinubu's absence from the 81st UN General Assembly, asserting it did not affect Nigeria's prominent position. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ibrahim noted that over 60% of officials at the assembly were represented by vice presidents or foreign ministers.

He emphasized that Tinubu's presence was unnecessary for a brief speech, as Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered Nigeria's national statement. Ibrahim highlighted that major countries like South Africa, China, and Russia also did not send their presidents.

He mentioned Nigeria's favorable seating arrangement, occupying the sixth position in the front row, and stated that Tinubu would be invited to address the assembly at a later date. Ibrahim also addressed criticisms regarding Tinubu's four-week stay in Europe, clarifying that the President did not violate any constitutional provisions during his absence.
