African Union Suspends Guinea Bissau After Military Coup

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed that Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara coordinated the evacuation of a team during the recent coup in Guinea Bissau. The African Union (AU) suspended Guinea Bissau after a military takeover, with AU Chairman Mahamoud Ali Youssouf leading the decision.

West African leaders condemned the coup and demanded the restoration of constitutional rule, prompting an emergency virtual session. Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio chaired the meeting to address the crisis within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
