TCN Declares Force Majeure on Kainji-Birnin Kebbi Line
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) declared a Force Majeure Event on the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi Transmission Line following the collapse of Tower T367 at 10:44 p.m. on Monday, 7th September 2026. A trial reclosure was attempted at 11:07 p.m., but the line tripped again.
On 8th September 2026, TCN's Birnin Kebbi Sub-Region linesmen discovered the collapsed tower during a fault-finding patrol. Preliminary findings attributed the collapse to heavy winds and rainstorms in the area, which disrupted bulk electricity transmission through the corridor.
TCN has initiated arrangements to mobilize personnel and equipment for the rehabilitation of the tower and restoration of the transmission line. In the meantime, TCN has maintained electricity supply to Sokoto via the Talata Mafara–Sokoto corridor using an alternative path from the Kaduna-Mando axis through the 132kV Zaria–Funtua–Gusau transmission line.
TCN expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to electricity consumers and stakeholders.
