Rescue Operation in Plateau Saves Pregnant Women, Minors

In Plateau State, a rescue operation led by Olivia Dazyam, Chairperson of the Plateau State Gender Equal Opportunity Commission, resulted in the rescue of two pregnant women and eight minors from human traffickers. The victims were allegedly being ferried to a mining camp in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The operation was prompted by community alerts regarding illegal activities at a motor park near Zawan Junction in Jos South Local Government Area. Dazyam described the conditions faced by the minors, who were recruited for labor in the mines, often working six days a week under exploitative circumstances.

The operation led to the arrest of 14 individuals, including three suspected traffickers. Emmanuel Dauda, a representative of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers, confirmed that the park was operating illegally and emphasized the need for community vigilance regarding the whereabouts of children.

Dazyam urged parents to report any suspicious activities related to minors in the area.
