Gender Commission Rescues 8 Children from Traffickers

The Plateau State Gender Equal Opportunities Commission, led by Chairperson Dazyam, rescued eight underage children and arrested three suspected traffickers during an operation at an illegal motor park located at Zawan Junction in Jos, Plateau State. This operation was initiated following a discovery of the park's activities, which had been ongoing for almost ten years.

The park was reportedly used to transport passengers to Ibadan, Oyo State, without proper authorization. Dazyam expressed concern over the silence surrounding abuse in the area and indicated that the children were being recruited for labor in mines.

The preliminary investigation showed that the children, including three young females and two pregnant women, were being transported without payment for their fare. The commission plans to ensure that the park does not operate again until further investigations are completed.
