Mateus Fernandes Chooses Tottenham Over Man United

Mateus Fernandes, a former player for West Ham United, revealed his reasons for opting to join Tottenham Hotspur instead of Manchester United during the summer transfer window. Following West Ham's relegation, both clubs showed interest in acquiring the Portuguese midfielder.

Ultimately, Tottenham secured Fernandes for a then club-record fee of £85 million. In an interview with The Athletic, Fernandes explained that his decision was significantly influenced by his discussions with Tottenham's head coach, Roberto De Zerbi.

He noted that De Zerbi communicated with him and his family daily, emphasizing the emotional connection they established, particularly as Fernandes' parents do not speak English fluently. De Zerbi assured Fernandes that he would take care of him in England, likening his role to that of a second father.

Meanwhile, Manchester United has been looking to strengthen their midfield following the exit of Casemiro and the injury of Manuel Ugarte, recently signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
