Tottenham Hotspur Signs Mateu Fernandes for £85 Million

Tottenham Hotspur has officially signed 21-year-old midfielder Mateu Fernandes for a club record fee of £85 million. The club has not confirmed the length of the contract.

Fernandes, who spent the last two seasons in the Premier League with Southampton, was not included in the World Cup squad. Despite Southampton's relegation to the Championship, Spurs have admired Fernandes for a long time due to his qualities, intelligence, and ability to perform under pressure.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi expressed confidence in Fernandes' potential to develop further in a supportive environment. The agreed fee guarantees Spurs £85 million without add-ons.

Fernandes was a primary target for the North London club, which had previously bid for Sandro Tonali but was rejected. He is the fifth signing for Spurs this summer, following goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and defenders Marco Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Jan Paul van Heck.
