Babangida Claims Today's Corruption Exceeds His Era

Ibrahim Babangida, the former military President of Nigeria, remarked that the scale of corruption in contemporary Nigeria makes the military administrations of his era seem like "saints." This statement was made during an old interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) that has recently resurfaced online. Babangida reflected on the accountability measures during his tenure, specifically mentioning the dismissal of a military governor over a sum of N300,000, which he considered significant enough to warrant such action.

He contrasted this with the much larger sums involved in current corruption cases, stating, “Today, there are N300 billion, still not issued, not solved.” Babangida expressed pride in his administration's integrity, asserting, “We are not corrupt. I will proudly say it because what I read in the papers, if it is true, then I think I used to say we are saints.”.
