NYSC Members Rescued in Imo, 16 Terrorists Neutralised

On October 2, ten prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were rescued in Imo State following a highway abduction. The incident occurred when suspected kidnappers intercepted two commercial buses on the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
Troops from the 34 Artillery Brigade, alongside personnel from the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, and Department of State Services, responded to the incident around 6:30 a.m. in Umonuwa village, Mbaise Local Government Area. The operation successfully rescued the ten abducted passengers and recovered the two buses.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the rescue and stated that its Rapid Response Team was deployed to search surrounding forests for any remaining victims. Concurrently, in Adamawa State, troops repelled simultaneous attacks on military positions, neutralising 16 terrorists and recovering a cache of weapons.
The attacks targeted troops of the 226 Battalion at Garkida and the 232 Battalion at Garaha. Follow-up operations are ongoing to ensure security in the area.
