Troops Rescue 360 Women and Children from Boko Haram

On June 6, 2023, troops from the Special Operations Force, in collaboration with the 26 Task Force Brigade, rescued 360 civilians, primarily women and children, who had been abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The rescue operation was part of a coordinated military offensive aimed at disrupting terrorist activities around the Mandara Mountain region.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation involved preliminary actions to create confusion within the terrorist camp, allowing ground troops to successfully rescue the victims, who had been abducted during an attack on the Ngosh community on March 3, 2026. Unfortunately, the operation recorded the tragic deaths of two infants due to the difficult terrain encountered during the rescue.

The rescued individuals were immediately taken for medical checks and provided with food and water while being kept secure pending further arrangements for family reunification. The operation is described as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to weaken the terrorist network in Northeast Nigeria.
