Troost-Ekong Critiques FIFA, CAF Over Nigeria's Protest

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has publicly criticized FIFA and CAF for their decisions regarding Nigeria's protest against DR Congo during the World Cup qualifiers. Nigeria accused DR Congo of improperly registering a European-born player, arguing that the country does not permit dual nationality in football eligibility.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) believed they had a strong case and hoped FIFA would penalize DR Congo, restoring Nigeria's place in the intercontinental playoff for the 2026 World Cup. However, FIFA dismissed the complaint due to technical issues, stating Nigeria failed to submit the protest on time and did not pay the required fee.

Troost-Ekong expressed his disappointment and highlighted deeper issues within African football governance. He emphasized the need for rigorous checks on player eligibility and better decision-making by referees.

Furthermore, he called for the involvement of former players and coaches in the administration of African football to improve the quality of matches.
