Troost-Ekong Critiques CAF's Decision on AFCON Trophy

William Troost-Ekong, the captain of Nigeria's Super Eagles, has publicly condemned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for its decision to award Morocco the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy, following the overturning of Senegal's victory. The ruling, which declared Senegal's 1-0 win in the final against Morocco on January 18 as a forfeit due to a breach of regulations, has left Troost-Ekong feeling deeply saddened.

He described the situation as a "joke" when he first heard the news and expressed that it would not feel right for any player to celebrate a title won under such circumstances. Troost-Ekong emphasized that every African player aspires to win the tournament fairly, and he would not accept a medal under these conditions.

The Senegal Football Federation has confirmed plans to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which is expected to take place later this year.
