Trump Unveils Tough Economic Sanctions Against Iran

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced the implementation of what he termed the “most crushing economic operation” against Iran, aimed at any nation that provides support to Iran's financial institutions, businesses, or government entities. This announcement reflects Trump's frustration over the lack of progress in the ongoing conflict with Iran, which has lasted almost seven months.

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, criticized Trump's threats as a distraction from America's own economic issues, while Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf accused the US of seeking an “honourable exit” from the Middle East. The announcement followed the UAE's decision to cease all trade and economic cooperation with Iran, citing missile attacks that Iran denied.

The US has maintained stringent sanctions on Iran for over 40 years, and the effectiveness of this new measure remains uncertain. The Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding, signed on June 17, expired recently, marking the end of a 60-day deadline for negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.
