Trump Deems Iran's Participation in 2026 World Cup Inappropriate

In a recent statement, former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed that it is not appropriate for Iran to participate in the 2026 World Cup, citing concerns for the safety of the Iranian men's football team.

Trump's comments were made on his platform Truth Social and followed an interview with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Ahmad Donyamali, Iran's Minister of Sport and Youth, indicated that the country may not participate in the tournament scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to June 26, 2026.

He highlighted the corrupt governance in Iran and the unsafe conditions for participation, particularly in light of potential military actions from the U.S. and Israel. Iran is set to face New Zealand and Belgium in the tournament, but the uncertainty surrounding their participation remains due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
