US Achieves $1.45 Billion Trade Surplus with Nigeria in 2025

The US has experienced a notable trade surplus of $1.45 billion with Nigeria in the first ten months of 2025, a stark contrast to the deficit recorded in the same period last year. Data from the US Census Bureau reveals a substantial rise in American exports to Nigeria, coupled with weaker imports from Nigeria.

This shift has favored Washington, with a positive balance in trade. Despite a slight decline in monthly exports from September to October, the overall trade surplus widened.

The US recorded a trade deficit with Nigeria in October 2024, which has now turned into a surplus due to a significant increase in exports and a decrease in imports. Nigeria has emerged as a key player in reshaping US-Africa trade dynamics, contributing significantly to the US trade surplus in Africa.

The trade outcomes have been influenced by protectionist policies and tariff focus under the leadership of US President Donald Trump.
