Osun State Launches Free Tuberculosis Screening Campaign

Osun State has launched an intensified campaign against tuberculosis, offering free screening services to residents as part of the observance of World Tuberculosis Day. The initiative was flagged off at Ayetoro Junction in Osogbo, with health officials conducting free tuberculosis and blood pressure screenings.

Isiaka Adekunle, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, urged community involvement in tackling the disease, while Akeem Bello, the Director of Public Health, highlighted that tuberculosis is preventable and curable, stressing the importance of early diagnosis. The campaign aims to improve early detection and treatment, as tuberculosis remains prevalent in the community.

Residents are advised to avoid overcrowded environments and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms associated with tuberculosis, such as a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, unexplained weight loss, night sweats, chest pain, and prolonged low-grade fever. Oladel Akano, who manages the tuberculosis, leprosy, and Buruli ulcer control program, reiterated that treatment remains free at designated public health facilities.

The campaign is supported by the Damien Foundation, which continues to provide free diagnostic and treatment services in the state.
