Olatunji Disu Appointed Acting IGP to Reform Nigeria Police

Olatunji Ridwan Disu was appointed as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nigeria, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun, in a move aimed at revitalizing the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and restoring public trust. Disu, born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos, brings a wealth of experience, including multiple postgraduate degrees in criminology, security, legal psychology, and public administration.

His career in the NPF began in 1992, and he has held various significant positions, including leading anti-kidnapping and anti-robbery operations nationwide. During a press conference, Disu emphasized his commitment to addressing impunity, human rights violations, and corruption within the police force, which has been plagued by a tarnished reputation.

He acknowledged the challenges ahead and expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him by President Bola Tinubu. Disu's appointment is seen as a critical step towards reforming the police and rebuilding trust with citizens, who have often viewed the police with skepticism due to past abuses.
