Tunji Disu Appointed Acting IGP Before Retirement

Tunji Disu has been appointed as the Acting Inspector General of Police by President Bola Tinubu on February 24, 2024, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun, who resigned on Tuesday. Disu, born on April 13, 1966, enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992.

He is set to reach mandatory retirement 48 days after his appointment, as he will turn 60 years old. Although he will complete 35 years of service in May 2027, the current appointment means he is expected to serve a tenure of four years unless he resigns or is removed by the president.

Kayode Egbetokun, the 22nd Inspector General of Police, was appointed on June 19, 2023, and his appointment was confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023. Egbetokun, who is currently 58 years old, is expected to remain in office until October 31, 2027, following amendments to the police act that allow for a full four-year tenure.
