Violence Erupts at APC Congress in Ondo, Two Dead

On February 18, 2026, violence broke out during an APC Congress in Ondo, leading to the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several others. The unrest occurred just 24 hours after suspected political thugs attacked a stakeholder meeting at the party's secretariat in Akure.

Raphael Adetimehin, the brother of the state APC chairman, was reportedly attacked and critically injured by assailants who mistook him for his brother due to their resemblance. He is currently in a coma as a result of the machete attack.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that five unidentified individuals were involved in the violence, which included the burning of vehicles. Three victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical attention.

The police have deployed tactical teams to restore order and ensure the safety of residents, urging the public to remain calm amidst the unrest.
