Two Sentenced for Buying Newborn in Gombe Court

On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Gombe sentenced two individuals, IB Chukwumeka and Virgia Okafor, to two years in prison for child trafficking. Justice Amina Aliyu Muhammad presided over the case, where the defendants were accused of purchasing a newborn baby girl, violating Section 21 of the Child Trafficking Prohibition Law of 2015.

The prosecution, led by Muhammad Abdullahi and represented by Miss Yila Kopyo, presented evidence that proved the defendants' guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. During the trial, two witnesses testified against the defendants, who had initially pleaded not guilty.

Following the judgment, Justice Muhammad convicted the defendants and imposed a two-year prison sentence, with an option to pay a fine of N1 million to avoid incarceration.
