Gombe Man Sentenced for Attempted Child Trafficking

On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Gombe, presided over by Justice H. O.

Oshomah, sentenced 51-year-old Hamidu Damisa to prison for child trafficking offenses. Damisa, a resident of Putuki Pargal in Balanga Local Government Area, was accused of attempting to sell a one-year-old boy identified as Destiny Bogar from Degri Local Government.

The prosecution, led by counsel Musa Yila Kopyo, arraigned Damisa on two counts related to child trafficking. The first count was contrary to Section 13(1)(2) of the Child Trafficking Law of 2015, while the second count alleged that Damisa attempted to sell the child, contrary to Section 29 of the amended Child Trafficking Law of 2015, punishable under Section 21 of the same law.

During the trial, Damisa pleaded not guilty, but the prosecution presented two witnesses, including the convict's wife, who testified against him. Justice Oshomah ultimately found Damisa guilty and sentenced him according to the provisions of the Child Trafficking Law.
