Two Nigerians Killed in South Africa Amid Xenophobia

Two Nigerian nationals, Amaramiro Emmanuel Ekpenyong and Andrew Separ, were killed in South Africa, as confirmed by the Nigerian consul in Johannesburg, Ninikanwa Okei. The incidents occurred amid growing concerns over xenophobic tensions.

Okei disclosed that Andrew Separ was arrested on April 19 in the Booysen area of Pretoria following an alleged confrontation with officers from the Tshwane Metro Police. The bodies of the victims were later discovered at the Pretoria Central Mortuary.

Okei lodged a formal complaint with the South African Police Service and urged the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into the case. She emphasized the importance of justice and the presumption of innocence in legal processes.

The consul expressed concern over the increasing profiling of Nigerians as criminals and urged Nigerian residents in South Africa to remain calm and cooperate with authorities during the investigation.
