Flamingos Win 3-2 Against Benin in U17 WWC Qualifier

On Saturday, at Remo Star Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria's U17 women's team, the Flamingos, achieved a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Benin Republic in the first leg of the final round of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup in Morocco. The match began with Benin taking an early lead in the 16th minute through Romain Gandon's solo effort.

Nigeria quickly equalized five minutes later with a powerful header from Queen Joseph. The Flamingos then took control, with Oluwakemi Adegbuyi scoring in the 62nd minute.

However, Benin's Nazifat Dangui leveled the match at 2-2 before Ifeanyi reacted quickest in the box to restore Nigeria's lead in the 75th minute, sealing the vital home win. Head coach Akeem Busari expressed anticipation for a fierce contest in the return leg scheduled for July 11, as Nigeria aims to secure one of Africa's four qualifying slots for the World Cup.
