UAE Launches Blue Residency for Environmental Contributors

The United Arab Emirates has launched a new long-term residency pathway called Blue Residency, aimed at individuals who have made significant contributions to environmental sustainability. This initiative, introduced in 2024, is managed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security.

Unlike traditional residency options linked to employment or property, this pathway focuses on environmental impact, applicable to work done both within the UAE and abroad. The five categories eligible for this residency include: 1) Environmental and sustainability influencers, who must demonstrate financial support of at least AED 1 million; 2) Scientists and researchers with advanced degrees in relevant fields and a nomination from the UAE Council of Scientists; 3) Investors and entrepreneurs with a minimum AED 2 million investment in an environmental project; 4) Inventors holding patents in the environmental sector; and 5) Elite specialists in environmental organizations with leadership roles.

Documentation is essential for all categories, reflecting the UAE's commitment to becoming a global hub for climate and sustainability.
