UCDA Demolishes 50 Illegal Structures in Umuahia

The Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) conducted a demolition exercise on Tuesday, targeting 50 unapproved structures in Umuahia, Abia State. This initiative is part of the agency's commitment to beautifying the state capital, which was announced two months prior.

The demolition took place in the Shoprite area along the railway line near the Post Office Junction and Bend Road. Structures affected included car washes, tricycle parks, shops, canteens, mechanical workshops, and boutiques.

Kingsley Agomoh, the General Manager of UCDA, noted that a grace period had been given to the owners of these illegal structures before the demolition commenced. Despite traders occupying the shops, some were seen salvaging their goods as UCDA machinery crushed the structures.

The exercise aims to sanitize the city and was approved by the Abia State government.
