Uganda Reports Three New Ebola Cases, Total Hits Five

Uganda has confirmed three new cases of Ebola, bringing the total number of infections in the current outbreak to five. The Ministry of Health announced these new cases on Saturday, which include a Ugandan driver, a Ugandan health worker, and a woman who is a neighbor of a Congolese national.

The outbreak, first detected in the country on May 15, has raised significant concern across the region, prompting the Ministry to intensify response measures to curb further spread of the virus. The Ministry is strengthening surveillance, case management, contact tracing, and public awareness efforts to contain the outbreak and protect public health.

The latest confirmation comes on the same day that the World Health Organization raised the risk level of the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to its highest classification due to growing regional concerns. Earlier in the week, Uganda suspended public transport links with the DRC following reports of two initial Ebola cases, one of which was fatal.
