Uganda Reports New Ebola Cases, Increases Monitoring

Uganda has reported new cases of the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, leading to heightened monitoring efforts. The World Health Organization has classified the outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern, warning of a high risk for a wider epidemic, especially given the ongoing security issues and population movement in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Health officials have confirmed that the new cases in Uganda include a driver who transported the country's first Ebola patient and a healthcare worker who was exposed while treating infected individuals. Additionally, a third confirmed case involves a Congolese woman who traveled to Uganda, presenting mild abdominal symptoms before seeking medical attention at a private hospital in Kampala after crossing near Arua.
