UK Charges Man for Role in 1994 Rwandan Genocide

British authorities have arrested and charged a 65-year-old man for his alleged role in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. The Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service announced that he faces one count of being ancillary to genocide and six counts of aiding crimes against humanity.
The suspect is accused of directing and inciting acts of murder and genocide during the mass killings that resulted in over 800,000 deaths, primarily of ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus. The investigation began in 2019 following a request from the Rwandan government.
The man, originally from Kigali, entered the UK as an asylum seeker in 1998 and became a British citizen in 2004. He was previously arrested in 2006 for alleged links to the genocide, but an extradition attempt was blocked by a British court in 2017.
Investigations into other suspects living in the UK are ongoing.
