Okpebholo Defends Tinubu's Reforms, Compares Petrol Prices

During the “Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road” event in Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo defended the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu's administration, encouraging Nigerians to remain patient as the government aims to stabilize the economy. He acknowledged the difficulties associated with these reforms but asserted that they are essential for Nigeria's long-term economic improvement.

Okpebholo likened the current economic situation to the take-off phase of a flight, where services are not immediately provided until the aircraft reaches cruising altitude. He also compared petrol prices in Nigeria to those in the United Kingdom, stating that after conversion, UK petrol prices are “about 3,000-something” naira per litre, arguing that Nigerians are paying less for petrol.

His remarks come amid ongoing concerns regarding the cost of living and the impact of the removal of the petrol subsidy.
