UN Condemns Killing Of 5 Al Jazeera Journalists By Israeli Forces

The United Nations Human Rights office has strongly condemned the targeted Israeli attack that killed five Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza, calling it a breach of international law. Among the journalists killed was correspondent Anas, who died in an Israeli airstrike on Sunday.

The Israeli military claimed they targeted Sharif, alleging he was the head of a Hamas terrorist cell, a claim Sharif denied. The UN called for an independent investigation into the incident, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressing concern and demanding that Israel ensure the safety of journalists.

Reporters Without Borders and the Foreign Press Association also condemned the killings, labeling them as assassinations. The Committee to Protect Journalists noted that Israel has a history of labeling Palestinian journalists as militants without credible evidence.

Israel must respect and protect civilians, including journalists, according to the UN Human Rights office.
